Marina Sweany, SILP Instructor of Russian

Teaching and Research Interests:

Hi, My name is Marina Sweany. I am originally from Novgorod, Rochester's sister city in Russia. Before moving to Rochester, I worked in Novgorod as a teacher of English and German. Six years ago, I married a Rochesterian, and relocated here to live where I am now an instructor of Russian at RIT. I have 2 sons, one is 12 and the other is 2. I go to Russia every summer to visit my family and stay connected with the Russian culture. In my free time I like to do traditional Russian painting on wood and weaving birch bark baskets. I also enjoy studying new languages, such as Urdu, Swedish, Arabic and Spanish.
